SODA Robotics

ABQ Maker Faire is excited to have The School of Dreams Academy Robotics team show an assortment of the robots built at SODA. The School of Dreams Academy Robotics team won 4th place in the B.E.S.T. robotics competition in 2010 which qualified them for the National finals. The team placed 23 in the National finals!

SODA RoboticsThe Mission of the School of Dreams Academy is to prepare students of Valencia County to become confident, self-sustaining individuals with an enthusiasm for continual learning, as well as a passion for life.  Students will be afforded the opportunity to excel in the core subject areas through a rigorous curriculum with emphasis on the arts, technology, character development, and community service learning, giving them the skills necessary for success in post-secondary education and career choices.  Each student will come to school daily, knowing that they are cared for and that the school supports them and their families in pursuit of their goals.

Maker Profile: The Good Life Lab

The Good Life Lab: Radical Experiments in Hands on Living

by Wendy Jehanara Tremayne

goodlifelab_3d

Wendy presents the material in her new book, The Good Life Lab, which contains the inspirational story of how they ditched their careers in New York City to move to rural New Mexico, where they made, built, invented, foraged, and grew all they needed to live self-sufficiently. Alongside their personal story they present the discovery of a fulfilling lifestyle that relies less on money. They teach the art living from waste and from nature and teach how to make biofuel, DIY appliances for automating the homestead, build structures, gardens, and grow and forage food, and medicine. They present reasons for makers to share their innovations and ideas through open source and creative commons licenses.

Wendy will be speaking and selling her book, The Good Life Lab: Radical Experiments in Hands-On Living at Albuquerque Mini-Maker Faire this August.

Taos, New Mexico-based artist Christina Sporrong is a welder, blacksmith, educator, aerialist, illustrator, performer, mayhem creator, and all-around badass. She builds giant, fiery installations, does amazing high-flying aerial feats, teaches welding workshops, and is a mother, to top it all off. We need more women like her in the world. Christina will be bringing her incredible, interactive Caged Pulse Jets to Maker Faire Bay Area, May 18 and 19, and will be speaking on the Meet the Makers stage in Expo Hall on the 19th at 3:30.
