In 2012 there will be close to 60 Mini Maker Faires around the globe. Mini Maker Faires are organized by individuals, hackerspaces and maker groups, schools, and larger institutions like science museums. They are diverse in scope, resources and origin, but all share an interest in connecting and celebrating makers.
At World Maker Faire New York next weekend, over twenty such Mini Maker Faire producers will be meeting up, telling stories, and learning about new tools.
If you are interested in meeting some of these folks and learning more about our Mini Maker Faire program, please come out to Maker Faire New York for our Sunday 11 a.m. morning session “Mini Maker Faires: Building Local Maker Community Around the Globe.” Note that if you can’t make it, you can watch the livestream at google.com/+MAKE.
Now for the updates! Two Mini Maker Faires are happening this weekend:

Maker and Volunteer Badges!
We are holding a Badge party this weekend:
WHEN: This Sunday, 10:00AM WHERE: We will be meeting at Quelab WHAT: Create Badges! We are creating badges for All Makers and Volunteers out of the sealing lids for wide mouth canning jars.
You can decorate your own badge and Make a few more. All Makers and Volunteers are invited to join!
Badges will have our main logo to cut and put in place and then we will have all kinds of glitter and assorted odd items to glue into place. We will be using regular glues and hot glues as well. Then our volunteer Betsy will pour resin over the badges and drill the holes for the lanyards and we will have our hand made New Mexico style badges! We will need to put labels on the back to add the maker’s name for their own badge.
It is likely that we can begin this process on Thursday but we do need to make sure we have the banners finished.
Thank you all for what your are doing to birth this new baby event!

Help make this the best Mini-Maker Faire ever
Join us for one or more Albuquerque Open Maker Meetings to be held at Quelab every Thursday from 6:30-8:30pm.
These meetings will be a quick intro to the Make movement and answering your Maker Faire questions, open to Makers, Volunteers and the general public. We the volunteers and makers will be painting signs and doing other fun ‘maker’ projects that will help to create the Faire. As we get closer to the Faire additional days may be added if necessary for large project items as we get closer to the faire.
Please fill out our Maker-In-Training Questionnaire to get on the Volunteer list!
